Sistem sungai kelas A (一級水系, Ikkyū suikei) merupakan sebutan yang diterapkan pada sungai dan saluran air yang dianggap penting bagi perekonomian negara, serta dianggap penting bagi konservasi alam di Jepang. Saat ini terdapat 109 sungai yang menggunakan sistem sungai kelas A.[3]

Jumlah bendungan hanya mencakup bendungan yang ada dan yang belum dibangun yang memenuhi kriteria (15 meter (49 kaki) atau lebih tinggi) dari Hukum Sungai. Angka dalam kurung adalah jumlah bendungan di sungai utama, tidak termasuk anak sungai. Jumlah bendungan tidak selalu melebihi jumlah pembangkit listrik tenaga air karena pembangkit yang menggunakan bendung kurang dari 15 meter (49 ft) tidak dianggap sebagai bendungan.
