Daftar kota di Australia menurut jumlah penduduk berisi tiga jumlah penduduk yang berbeda yang diberikan untuk kota-kota di Australia, dan memberikan peringkat untuk masing-masing kota.

Ibu kota, Statistical Division dan Statistical District menurut jumlah penduduk

Statistical Division (SD) ditetapkan oleh Australian Bureau of Statistics sebagai daerah di bawah pengaruh bersatu dari satu kota besar atau lebih. Setiap ibu kota membentuk Statistical Division sendiri, dan di Australia populasi SD adalah yang paling banyak diambil untuk data populasi kota. Statistical District ditetapkan sebagai non-ibu kota tetapi wilayah urban. Pemerintah Australia menyebut divisi dan distrik di atas 100.000 jiwa sebagai metropolitan.

Statistical Division ditebalkan, sisanya adalah Statistical Districts.

Urban Centre ditetapkan oleh Australian Bureau of Statistics sebagai kumpulan penduduk dengan 1.000 jiwa atau lebih. Untuk keperluan statistik, orang-orang yang tinggal di Urban Centre dikelompokkan sebagai urban. Jumlah ini termasuk populasi wilayah urban lanjutan setiap kota.

Local Government Area adalah satuan utama pemerintah lokal di Australia. Mereka dapat berarti kota, shire, dewan atau nama lainnya,tapi kesemuanya berfungsi sama. Brisbane adalah satu-satunya ibu kota negara bagian dengan satu LGA yang mencakup sebagian besar wilayah urbannya.
