Paragraf pembuka artikel ini sangat bertentangan dengan bagian artikel "Perbedaan redenominasi dan pemotongan mata uang".

Harus dibedakan antara "redenominasi" dan "sanering".

• Redenominasi: beberapa angka nol dihilangkan, pastinya nilai tukar terhadap mata uang asing juga harus disesuaikan secara linear (bukan dibiarkan tetap). Misal: US$ 1 = IDR 10.000 (lama) menjadi US$ 1 = IDR 10 (baru). Pada saat yang sama, harga lama suatu barang IDR 10 juta, harga baru (barang yang sama) IDR 10 ribu. Artinya tidak terdapat perubahan harga nyata uang relatif terhadap harga barang. Cuma penyebutan/penulisannya saja yang berbeda. Di sini "tidak akan terjadi" perubahan daya beli dan daya jual pada pengguna mata uang yang mengalami redenominasi. Kalau nilai tukar tidak berubah, gila-gilaan namanya.
• Sanering: beberapa angka nol dihilangkan, nilai tukar terhadap mata uang asing tidak berubah secara linear. Artinya adalah terjadi perubahan harga nyata uang relatif terhadap harga nyata barang. Di sini "akan terjadi" perubahan daya beli dan daya jual pada pengguna mata uang.
