Ada yang disebut dengan nama panjang dan nama pendek. Nama pendek = Indonesia, nama panjang = RI atau Republik Indonesia. Kecuali kasus-kasus khusus, maka digunakan nama pendek suatu negara untuk hal-hal yang berkenaan dengan negara tersebut, misal Lambang Indonesia, Bendera Indonesia, dll.
