Kata Bawean berasal dari bahasa Sansekerta, yang berarti ada sinar matahari.

Bukaaannn... saya sudah kerja. Seingat saya dulu. Guru SMP saya yang bikin buku tentang Bawean secara lengkap. Mulai sejarah, topografi, geografi, ekonomi, sosial, dsb. Mudah-mudahan bukunya masih ada di rumah atau di Bapak Guru saya tersebut. Aanset 03:43, 24 Maret 2006 (UTC)

Salam kenal semuanya :) Menarik juga ada 'penjelasan' tentang bawean disini. untuk Aanset, kalo yang Anda maksud adalah Bapak Zulfa Usman, berarti beliau adalah pamanku yang sekarang masih tinggal di Bawean. Memang beliau pernah menerbitkan buku tentang sejarah pulau Bawean, cerita rakyat dari Bawean yang sudah diterbitkan oleh Gramedia, serta 'kamus kecil' bahasa Bawean. Insyaallah, minggu depan saya ke Bawean dan barang kali bisa sedikit menambah 'cerita' disini :D

Posisi letak pulau Bawean di wikipedia tidak tepat.

mohon koreksinya bahwa letak pulau bawean yang dicantumkan di image wikipedia tidak tepat. posisi nya sangat membingungkan orang yang ingin mengenal pulau bawean. di image wikipedia dibawah ini posisinya tidak benar: |image name = Peta Pulau Bawean.png

pulau bawean bukan merupakan gili dari pulau madura tapi pulau tersendiri di tengah laut jawa letak posisi pulau bawean jauh dari pulau madura, dan akses menuju kesana dari pelabuhan gresik jawa timur.

pada peta zaman orde baru pulau bawean diletakkan di utara pulau madura dengan tanda kotak /insert yang menandakan bahwa letak pulau tersebut tidak pada posisi sebenarnya hanya memudahkan penggambaran saja dalam peta jawa timur tapi peta yang dicetak belakangan tanda kotak/insert di hilangkan sehingga pulau bawean seakan menjadi gili.
