Mary Astor
Mary Astor (lahir Lucile Vasconcellos Langhanke; 3 Mei 1906 – 25 September 1987) adalah seorang aktris Amerika.[2][3] Meskipun karirnya telah berlangsung selama beberapa dekade, dia mungkin paling diingat karena penampilannya sebagai Brigid O'Shaughnessy di The Maltese Falcon (1941).

Astor memulai karier filmnya yang panjang saat masih remaja dalam film bisu pada awal tahun 1920-an. Ketika film bicara tiba, suaranya awalnya dianggap terlalu maskulin dan dia tidak muncul di layar selama setahun. Setelah ia tampil dalam sebuah drama bersama temannya Florence Eldridge, tawaran film kembali datang, dan ia melanjutkan kariernya dalam gambar bersuara.
Pada tahun 1936, karier Astor hampir hancur karena skandal. Dia berselingkuh dengan seorang penulis drama George S. Kaufman dan dicap sebagai istri pezina oleh mantan suaminya selama perebutan hak asuh putri mereka. Mengatasi hambatan dalam kehidupan pribadinya, dia melanjutkan kesuksesan filmnya, dan akhirnya memenangkan penghargaan Academy Award untuk Aktris Pendukung Terbaik untuk perannya sebagai pianis konser Sandra Kovak di The Great Lie (1941).
Astor adalah pemain kontrak Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer sepanjang tahun 1940-an dan terus bekerja di film, televisi dan di panggung hingga pensiun pada tahun 1964. Dia menulis lima novel. Autobiografinya menjadi buku terlaris, seperti juga buku selanjutnya, A Life on Film, yang tentang karirnya.
Sutradara Lindsay Anderson menulis tentang Astor pada tahun 1990 bahwa ketika "dua atau tiga orang yang mencintai sinema berkumpul bersama, nama Mary Astor selalu muncul, dan semua orang setuju bahwa dia adalah seorang aktris yang sangat menarik, yang kualitas kedalaman dan realitasnya selalu tampak menerangi peran yang dimainkannya."[4]
