Jacques-Louis David
Jacques-Louis David (/ʒɑːkˈlwi ˈdɑːviːd/; bahasa Prancis: [ʒak lwi david]) (Lahir 30 Agustus 1748 – Meninggal 29 Desember 1825) adalah seorang pelukis berpengaruh pada aliran Neo-Klasik, dianggap pelukis yang unggul dalam eranya.[1] Ia adalah murid dari J.M. Vien.[1] Ia pernah mendapat hadiah dari Roma (prix de Rome) pada tahun 1774.[1] Pada tahun 1775-1780 dan 1784 ia tinggal di Roma.[1] Jacques-Louis David melukiskan kondisi Revolusi Prancis secara monumental.[1] Bahkan, ia di kemudian hari menjadi pelukis istana pada masa kekuasaan Napoleon.[1] Karya-karyanya pada saat itu lebih menggambarkan peristiwa bersejarah daripada estetik.[1] Di antara lukisannya yang terkenal, adalah Upacara Penobatan Napoleon dan Kematian Marrat.[1][2] Dengan berakhirnya kekuasaan Napoleon, Jacques-Louis kemudian diasingkan ke Belgia, yaitu pada tahun 1816.[1] Walaupun ia berkerja kepada Napoleon yang dianggap sebagai rezim militer, ia tetap bekerja dengan manjaga jarak terhadap kepentingan kekuasaan.[2] Ia hanya menuangkan gagasan tentang apa yang benar-benar terjadi pada lukisannya.[2]
