Dan Shechtman
Dan Shechtman (Ibrani: דן שכטמן) (lahir 24 Januari 1941)[1] adalah Philip Tobias Professor of Materials Science di Institut Teknologi Technion - Israel, Rekanan Ames Laboratory milik Departemen Energi AS, dan Profesor Ilmu Material di Iowa State University. Pada 8 April 1982, ketika sedang beristirahat di U.S. National Bureau of Standards di Washington, D.C., Shechtman menemukan fase ikosahedral, yang membuka bidang baru dalam kristal kuasiperiodik.[2] Ia memenangkan Hadiah Nobel Kimia 2011 atas "penemuan kuasikristal".[3]

Biografi
suntingDan Shechtman lahir di Tel Aviv, Palestina Mandat. Ia menikah dengan Prof. Tzipora Shechtman, Kepala Departemen Konseling dan Pembangunan Manusia di Universitas Haifa, dan penulis dua buku mengenai psikoterapi.[4][5] Mereka dikaruniai seorang putra bernama Yoav Shechtman (mahasiswa PhD fisika) dan tiga putri: Tamar Finkelstein (psikolog organisasi di pusat kepemimpinan polisi Israel), Ella Shechtman-Cory (PhD dalam bidang psikologi klinis), dan Ruth Dougoud-Nevo (PhD dalam bidang psikologi klinis).[6][7]
