Chester Morris
John Chester Brooks Morris (16 Februari 1901 – 11 September 1970) adalah aktor panggung, film, radio, dan televisi berkebangsaan Amerika Serikat. Dia telah bermain di beberapa film prestisius di awal kariernya, dan dinominasikan di ajang penghargaan Academy Award. Chester Morris adalah aktor yang paling dikenang yang pernah berperan sebagai Boston Blackie, seorang penjahat yang menjadi detektif, dalam a criminal-turned-detective, dalam serial film Blackie dasawarsa 1940-an.

suntingChester Morris yang memiliki nama asli John Chester Brooks Morris lahir di New York City, salah satu putera dari empat bersaudara dari aktor Teater Broadway William Morris dan komedian panggung Etta Hawkins.[1] Morris keluar dari sekolah dan mengawali kariernya di Teater Broadway pada usia 15 tahun, bermain dalam karya Lionel Barrymore berjudul The Copperhead.[2] Dia mengawali debutnya di ranah perfilman melalui film bisu bergenre drama komedi An Amateur Orphan (1917).[3]
Setelah tampil di beberapa prouksi Broadway awal dasawarsa 1920-an, Morris bergabung dengan orangtuanya, saudara perempuannya, dan dua saudara laki-lakinya, Gordon dan Adrian (yang juga menjadi aktof film), dalam sirkuit vaudeville.[4] Keluarga ini bermain dalam sebuah sketsa komedi berjudul "The Horrors of Home". Morris pentas keliling bersama keluarganya selama dua tahun sebelum kembali ke Broadway dengan menerima peran dalam naskah The Home Towners (1926) dan Yellow (1927). Selagi tampil dalam pertunjukan tahun 1927 berjudul Crime, Morris di ditemukan oleh agen pemandu bakat dan menandatangani kontrak untuk bermain film.[1]
